Best Spring 2013 campaigns: Akris

Every season I look forward to the new campaigns. It’s always such an exciting moment to see the images and think of the idea behind each story. Last year I liked so many that I had to pick the best of the best and combine them in one post instead of spreading the joy of visual pleasure over weeks of blogging space.

Sadly, it’s no longer the case as the quality of the imagery seems to be going down. Perhaps, this is just me, but I can’t help feeling disappointed pretty much every time I see something new. I cannot understand why it is so important for some companies to hire a famous photographer who seems to be more concerned with his fee rather than the concept or a model who doesn’t have the face or emotions to portrait the beauty of the collection. I also absolutely cannot understand the need to keep using old Versace campaign as a template for the new ones – last year it was Cavalli, this time Balenciaga decided to adopt the same approach to creativity and picked Versace Spring 1993 ads.

As a result I chose the favourites and decided to create a post for every single one of them. Hermes was the first one and today it’s Akris – simple, radiant and elegant reflection of beauty.

  3. wow it's astonishing how she manages to do the same expression for every photo- it really brings attention to the clothes :)

  4. A beautiful ad is really a work of art and evokes images and emotions that both move and inspire. My favourite fashion ads were the ones shot by Lagerfeld for Chanel with Angela Lindvall - I think it was 2001 or 2002.

  10. This is the first time I've seen this campaign, very striking and simply elegant. Love the last image most. I agree on brands using famous photographers who have sometimes lost touch with new creativity.

  11. I agree that the campaigns don't seem to be as eye catching this year. This one is indeed gorgeous. I love that first image.

  16. Меня не сколько наряды привлекли, сколько идея воплотить образ манекена на фотографии, по крайней мере я так вижу)

  17. Oh my goodness, I agree with so much of what you say about those ad campaigns. I'm always bewildered when I see some of-the-moment actress posting for a major house, her persona and expression reflecting none of what the bags are about. Oddly enough, the one tear-sheet on my studio bulletin for the past few months has been an Akris shot of their spring collection :)

  28. We had the same discussion about creativity about a week ago... It´s hard for us too to find something really new, something that doesn´t remind us to something that has been done before...

We specially feel that way about "spanish theme" fahsion shootings, as the last one with Kate Moss for Vogue, it´s always the same approach...

Great blog, we really like it!and thanks so much for your comment.

  34. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I've been very disappointed in them. This one from Akris is gorgeous. Last year, my blog was filled with campaigns. I've had to supplement doing other things because these have been so bad and NOT getting any better. HAHAHA Great post.
