Long dresses are definitely my current obsession. Though it’s been over ten years since I wore one, I still remember the two I had back then – simple shape, floral pattern, pull-on-and-go attitude… The summers were hot and the maxi dresses were my uniform. I practically lived in them.

Fast forward through a decade free from ground sweeping lengths, and the switch inside my head goes off again, stimulated by both the need for a comfortable 24/7 frock and the memory of that Michael Kors broderie anglaise perfection.

It turns out that finding the one isn’t as easy as it seems, so I put together a list of dresses to suit different shapes and budgets, in case you have been on a quest, too.

The only style rule (or gentle reminder) when choosing your perfect maxi dress is making sure that, should you need/want to wear high heel shoes or wedges, you do pick the right length for the dress – having your shoes and ankles showing is never chic…

  3. What a lovely selection of dresses, Natalia! I went through a maxi dress phase a few summers ago, but always struggled with length... most dresses were so long that, even with heels, I found myself tripping over the hems and, after one particularly nasty tumble, I renounced the length completely. But dresses 6 and 15 have me thinking I should really give it another try :)

  6. I haven't worn a long dress in very long time either. But I'm willing to give it a try. I like so many of your choices, with Cacharel and Emilio Pucci on top of the list. :)

  8. I'm glad you put this together! I have never worn a maxi in my life because I didn't think there was one I would be comfortable in, but my mind is changed. I adore #4 and #10 and could totally see myself in those.

  10. Wonderful selection, dear Natalia! I like maxi-dresses, too, but unfortunately my lovely husband doesn´t like them because he prefers to see my legs ;) But I´m happy that I own two of them so maybe it would become summer here and I can wear them ...

  15. I agree, finding one isn't as easy, that's why I always opt for a maxi dress of the pleated variety.. can never go wrong with pleats :) I think Maxi's are super glamarous, yet casual, and incredibly comfortable. Pick #11 needs to be in my wardrobe :)

  16. Wow, what a fantastic round up Natalia!! I've been loving the old maxis for a good few years now, but I find it so hard to pick ones that complement my figure, it seems to be waaay harder than with shorties for some reason. My vote would go to 1, 6, 11 and 20 - love!!

  18. I have numb.25 in my wardrobe, firstly kinda hard to manage with it, or at least conceive where should belt go where cowl armholes. But as you have figured, it would be great greek maxi chiton. In ocre is pretty good, but mine is ecru
