Clearly, it was only a matter of time before my heart would choose to converse with my shoes-obsessed mind and together the duo would push me towards an idea of writing the stories about brands and designers who make one of the most beautiful accessories in the whole wide world.
The shoes.

Which no girl would ever have enough of. Because there’s always a place for a dream in our life and the shoes are a fantasy subject that somehow, once they reach our feet, create a feeling of stepping into a fairy tale. Provided, of course, that the shoe fits beautifully and is a delight for an eye to see.

Since there’s no place like home, I decided to firmly plant my soles on the welcoming and fruitful British ground and focus on home grown treasures starting with Bionda Castana.

Their story made me smile and I experienced a feeling I could only describe as something that reading Igor Severyanin’s “Pineapples in Champaigne” gives. The pure and sparkling sensation of love.

It all began in 1997 when two half-Italian Londoners Natalia Barbieri and Jennifer Portman met in University where the girls studied for a business degree while dreaming of fashion and shoes.
After graduating and instead of dedicating their lives to an ordinary 9 to 5 the inseparable friends saved some money, got an apprenticeship in a family-owned Italian footwear factory to learn about the craft of making shoes and founded Bionda Castana (the duo’s Uni nickname “The Blonde Brunette” translated in Italian) in 2007.

Their shoes are not just a beautiful object of art, but wearable pieces easily recognisable for the classic and elegant yet edgy style, decadent materials and incredible feeling of comfort.

Each is inspired by a woman and created for a woman, so there will always be something that fits your personality and gives your outfit that luxurious final haute couture touch.

  2. Hi Natalia! I confess is the first time I hear about these designers, what a shame! Despite that they are half Italian, I really like their creations. Have just browsed them and I love the lace boots and the lace up booties, to die for! I also like the name of the brand they chose. Kisses dear, have a good day! xo

  8. Natalia, their story is beautiful! I always admire women in business. They make exquisite shoes. So feminine. So light. Thanks for introducing them to us.

Your selection was perfect Natalia. I love it. It does look better than the one in the collection; so I truly appreciate you going that extra mile. I love the shape, print and mirror. I will definitely cherish it. Everything is so lovely. Thank you so much! ((hug))
