Christmas gift guide: every shade of BLUE

29/11/2013

I absolutely adore blue and wear it despite any trends or season changes, so no wonder it made it to my Christmas gift guide 2013 as one of the perfect colours.

According to Pantone, it is the classic, deep and meditative shade called Myconos Blue that we should concentrate our attention on this season mixing it with black, white or both for extra intensity and depth and later, as the spring 2014 comes, turn to cobalt-like Dazzling Blue that beautifully fades into a softer dreamy hue of morning sky (the official name for the latter is placid blue, in case you were curious).

It took me quite a bit of time and editing  to put this list together and then - a good dose of willpower to stop myself from buying everything on it. I hope you love the result as much as I do. If something has your name written all over it – use one of the discount codes and sale offers I’ve included below and treat yourself.

“There is something special about clothes that are made by women (at the atelier) and not by machine. They do something for the clothes. There is a huge difference when I see a suit, or pants and a shirt being done by the atelier, and the same pieces done by a factory. It’s an emotion. Zara can’t copy that.”

Akris elegance

Akris Pre-Fall 2014
I admit, the 1967 version of Bonnie & Clyde wasn’t exactly my kind of film – it was the haircut topped with a perfectly cocked beret and the clothes Faye Dunaway wore on screen that I loved more than the story itself.

No wonder, I was so attracted to the movie-inspired Akris Pre-Fall 2014 where the clean cut, soft pleats and light weight cashmere, leather, and herringbone fabrics in the shades of cocoa, burgundy, and steel colour-matched to the old Ford colour card created a truly elegant collection.

Hats (or should I say, berets?) off to Albert Kriemler for being such a perfectionist and able to give us something so timeless, flawless, dreamy and beautiful. Something worthy falling in love with.

Christmas gift guide: every shade of PINK

22/11/2013

Julia Frauche in Blush Hour / Allure US October 2013 (photography: Sebastian Kim, styling: Siobhan Bonnouvrier)
It’s beginning to feel like Christmas. Actually, even look like Christmas, though I do try to ignore the latter for am not ready for the sparkles, twinkles and oversized boxes of sweets yet. What I am eager to do, though, is sharing my 2013 edition of colour-coordinated gift guides.

They were very popular last year, so I decided to do it again, but instead of going for red, green, gold and silver, choose a few other shades that seemed to have more impact on me this season.

Pink was the obvious one for it was everywhere. Just everywhere. The coats. The knitwear. The make-up. We have been thinking pink, wearing pink, beautifying our faces and nails in rosy shades and practically seeing the world turning soft strawberry marshmallow hue. As a result I picked something for everyone… From books, jewellery and accessories to clothes and shoes. Even got a pair of teddy bears. Just in case.

Pink may not be the colour of Christmas as such (and the list would also work as a February edition, so do feel free to direct your boyfriend/husband to it), but it is so very pretty… I don’t think there will be many girls who would be able to resist a dose of rose or feel indifferent when admiring it.
It’s time to think pink and go shopping.

The look of love: an outfit inspiration

Claire Collins by Richard Bernardi for Grazia France September 2013
I can absolutely see myself wearing this outfit… I have a similar coat (two, actually) and an oversized blouse (and on a very cold wintery day – an off-white cable knit sweater), will probably get another pair of blue jeans from either Uniqlo or, if I feel rich, MiH, swap leopard print booties (don’t have any like these) for the “Lord of the Rings pair”, add a bracelet from Mango, and use my beloved good old Ledbury to carry my possessions.

Softness, lightness and elegance. Three words that perfectly describe Nina Ricci’s core values and one of the Maison latest creations – the Ballet bag inspired by the functional, streamlined dance bags used by ballerinas.

Feminine and modern, with its slim handles, delicate hardware and finely wrought finishings, this timeless beauty is topping my ultimate wish list. I feel that, with my affection for both Nina Ricci and ballet, we could be friends should our fate ever brought us together…

To mark the launch of this creation, the Paris-based artistic duo “I Could Never Be a Dancer” has choreographed and directed a an electrifying and sensual film about the bag consisting of a single performance during which three dancers from different schools use their art to interpret their emotions about the Ballet.

The Ballet bag comes in several colour and material combinations and is available at MyTheresa, Saks Fifth Avenue and Monnier Freres.

It’s a Perfect cleanser

Oskia Perfect Cleanser review
My skin care, just like my diet, is something I take very seriously. So much so that I can spend months looking for a new product that I’d be 100% happy with. Needless to say, the amount of research that goes into every single purchase can eventually put me off making a switch even if and when I really fancy one.

A couple of months ago, after lengthy goodbyes and pitiful comebacks, I finally made a decision to change my cleanser. I was pretty happy with my old one, particularly when it came to make-up removal, but somehow I sensed there was something else out there waiting for me as far as my daily skincare routine was concerned. I looked for days and weeks until, finally, I came across a British-grown gem, Oskia.

Of course, I heard about the brand before, but my problem was that I heard too much of the good stuff about them and it felt, in a way, as if I was almost pushed into making a purchase. My stubborn and sceptical self definitely didn’t like it.

Still there was one thing that made me very curious. The cleanser I found contained MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), one of the substances our body needs to build collagen fibres. Normally I used MSM for my arthritis-suffering clients for this is how the MSM was initially introduced to the market (and me). After dealing with my  own injury I suddenly realised that collagen isn’t just a part of the bone or cartilage, but muscles as well, and some of mine (the torn ones) could certainly do with a boost. So I took a supplement and, the science bit aside, it turned out to be a miracle worker (yes, seriously).

The impressive results made  wonder about the role of MSM in skin maintenance (since the largest organ is built of collagen) and since Oskia was the only company offering skincare containing both organic ingredients and MSM, I ordered a couple of samples to try. The night of my first introduction to Oskia Perfect Cleanser was like fireworks.

I absolutely loved it. And not just me – my skin loved it even more. It smelled wonderful. It felt creamy. It didn’t irritate (and trust me, my skin is not so easy to please). Its formula was packed with organic ingredients, oils, vitamins, minerals and high-tech additions of a natural origin in a form of the abovementioned MSM and probiotics – everything our skin could possibly need to feel beautiful, loved, pampered and spotless (MSM, probiotics and zinc would take care of the latter). I only needed a small amount, so the full size tube suddenly didn’t seem expensive and actually lasted for ages.
Although I saw the difference within a week, I proceeded using my new best friend for a month during which my face developed sort of a glow and smoothness about it.

So I thought I’d share… Just in case you have been looking for a special something in your life, too.
The Perfect cleanser is available at Cult Beauty, Mankind, Zuneta and Beauty Expert and costs £32.50

P.S. Just in case you are thinking of the supplement, I would urge you to consult a nutritionist (me or your local one) and avoid running into the nearest shop  – it’s not always safe as the quantity needs to be chosen according to your needs, plus some of the supplements available for the general sales are made from the synthetic ingredients that may cause side-effects.

P.P.S. Here is a full list of ingredients (as you can see, no parabens or other nasties): Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Glycerin, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Decyl Oleate, Glyceryl Stearate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Dibehenate, Glyceryl Cocoate, Tribehenin, Glyceryl Behenate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Coco Glucoside, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Aqua (Water), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Parfum (Fragrance), Benzyl Alcohol, Methyl Sulphonyl Methane, Zinc Glycine, Inulin, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Aleurites Moluccana (Kukui) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Citronellol, Geraniol
