My beautiful little indulgence

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you'd probably remember that I have a soft spot for cashmere. I think the love for it blossomed many years ago when I first read about this wonderful and luxurious yarn and its importance in a classic wardrobe. I was a teenager and most of my knits were hand-made, so the thought of a cashmere sweater was as distant as, say, a pair of designer shoes (which, to be honest, never even crossed my mind back then).

It was only after I moved countries and firmly settled in England, I suddenly remembered that childhood memory, a vision of timelessness and quiet elegance and, naturally, decided to invest in a classic.

As soon as I put on my new jumper, I found myself enveloped in a cloud of warmth and bliss, a kind of sensation that you would never want to give up or be able to forget. And so I began building my little collection of cashmere essentials to have something for any situation. I bought something beautiful once a year or every couple of years - the wonderful quality of cashmere means that each garment lasts as long as you are happy to look after it.

One winter I even bought a pair of socks to sleep in - it was a fantastic experience that, however, didn't stand the test of time nor Oscars, the puppy, taste test. Since the puppy and the socks entered my life simultaneously, you can easily guess the fate of my "sleeping beauties".

I gave up on socks, but not the idea of cosiness they gave me, so when we were faced with the horrible weather and lack of heat, I pulled out one of my sweaters and wore it to bed. It was the best sleep I had in ages! I felt so comforted, cosy, loved almost... So weightless and most delicate, my roomy sweater not only gave me a feeling of incredible luxury, but also joy and pure relaxation. It turned into a habit... Whenever the sky looks cloudy and the wind brings cold air, I take my jumper out of the draw and dream of beautiful dreams even before I close my eyes and fall asleep. It's just so addictive! Best remedy on a gloomy night, even if I say so myself.

  17. I do love cashmere. Have you ever checked out Uniqlo? I've gotten some cashmere sweaters and cardigans there for a really good price. They still have the same soft warm cuddly feel, but sans the guilt of the price tag :D

  18. I think next on my list when it comes to cashmere items would be a long cardigan. My favourite piece is still a turtleneck I've had for years, in white, pale pink and beige, which simply makes me feel wonderful whenever I put it on on a cold autumn or winter day. And the unbelievable thing is that it's still as good as new and each year i end up wearing it more than my latest wardrobe acquisitions.

    1. I am the same. I have a few other sweaters, but every winter end up living in my cashmere ones. :) And the cardi sounds wonderful - I am still looking for mine, too. x

  20. I love to sleep in a great oversized cashmere sweater! Especially when traveling on a plane. It is always so cold, and the cashmere keeps me warn and all snuggled up to get a great nights rest while flying. Great Post.

  21. I dream of cashmere... but sadly, it's only a dream. My allergies don't allow me to wear even the softest of animal fibres, and so I read/watch longingly as others enjoy this beautiful fabric. Reading this post made me nostalgic, in a way, but it was also wonderful to experience cashmere through your writing.
