Denim: the new classics

Mano von Gerkan photographed by Gilles Bensimon for Elle US July 1993
New season, new classics - denim included, though it's been a while since this Nimes-born American-adopted fashion icon looked so fabulous. This spring the sturdy cotton twill dyed in every shade of blue, from the bleached barely there powdery azure to the traditional rich indigo,  is showing its versatility by taking shape of every imaginable garment under the sun giving us an opportunity to embrace our love of denim like never before.

In my case, it wasn't just about the jacket, boyfriend jeans or a perfect button-up. I wanted everything to be a little bit more classy, grown-up and feminine, something I could dress down for weekend, smarten up for work or prettify for a night out.

Besides there was also the Blue Jeans, Baby editorial that made me realise what I have been missing by sticking to the essential, but oh-so-predictable-and-borderline-boring jeans. Even more, the story didn't just inspire my selection, but also the choice of the image above. By now I've been talking about the 90s vibe long enough to finally give you a visual to support my nostalgic sentiment.

And just like the yesterday's shoot, the picture above is photographed by Gilles Bensimon - can you feel the whole easy breezy fabulousness yet? So good...
