Shoes in Elle US March 2008
It happens rather often. The conversations about the things I wear. A pair of Pradas, a Nina Ricci bag, a Maxmara coat... People often comment on my collection of designer items acquired over the years probably calculating the cost as they speak... Those little dialogues never go without a wink, rolling eyes or a hint of sarcasm for nobody ever believes my remarks about my investment buys without a heavy price tag.

For a while I tried to explain that I am pretty wise with my shopping habits, but eventually gave up and decided to let those people live in the world of their own imagination. The truth is that I shop during sales, on ebay, The Outnet or Vestiaire Collective looking for the high quality classic pieces and then mix them up with a few beautiful annual additions found on the high street. After all, I am still growing my own business and have to be very careful with frivolities. Besides I am a snob and never forget an old Russian saying "I am not that wealthy to compromise on quality".

I browse. A lot. I really like beautiful clothes and enjoy looking at them. Once in a while, usually once every few months, when it feels absolutely right, I buy something and wear it for years. High street, luxury - my final decisions are never based on the name tag, though, I admit, finding a designer bargain does make me feel rather good.

  3. Those who don't know the power of a good sale will never understand how those of who do slowly acquire our designer collections over the years - and no explanation will help them. So much the better, I sometimes think. After all, this leaves all of the wonderful sale items to the rest of us!

  4. I think there's a general idea that if you buy designer items you're paying a lot of many, but I've heard from plenty of people who do what you do and buy things on ebay or on sale, when you make a quality purchase for a lot less.
