Alberta Ferretti signatures

Hearing people say "It's so you!" is a sign that you've done it - whether it is a signature style or simply a garment or accessory, even a fragrance - once perfected it truly becomes a form of identity, something unique to you and unforgettable to the others. Undoubtedly, a good fashion designer is not only the one who leaves us with a beautiful fantasy and desire to project our personality through their clothes, but also the one with a certain visual ID that makes it into the Fashion Hall of Fame and becomes a classic...

"Perhaps for its forms, perhaps because it alludes to the secrets of intimacy, I consider it the most feminine garment there is. The one that I never tired of designing because it lends itself to infinite variations." said Alberta Ferretti about the slip, the dress that she first turned to in the early 1980s and then transformed into dozens and dozens of designs to celebrate the femininity, naturalness and elegance that most women would want to indulge in.

One season the slip would be a beautiful airy nothing, a wisp of chiffon held on the shoulders by the thin straps only to metamorphose into a shimmering satin gown or a sheath made of wool or velvet... Ferretti would change the length and hemlines, the cut and the lines, but never - the feel of sensuality each dress evoked.

That sensuality comes with the lightness, another element of Alberta Ferretti style, her vision of a perfect mix of daydreaming and reality, the essence of beauty and the purity of design, it is in the organza, chiffon and silk or the soft colour palette, the bow-tied ribbon or the frayed layers, the way each dress captures the air and radiance, and the feeling of softness as it touches the skin.

The only weight most of these ethereal creations have to bear is a glimpse of embellishment or romantic floral embroidery, also the signatures, but the subtle ones, often blurred, semi-concealed, they are inspired by the roses, hydrangeas, wisterias and jasmine, the shimmering glow of the Mediterranean sun and the sea - the essence of the Alberta Ferretti world - those couture touches turn every dress into a treasure to be worn by a woman who appreciates a quiet, discreet kind of luxury.

  1. For sure, Id love to wear one too. I remember when I was a child my mom owned a shirt by Alberta Ferretti like this (coordinated with a cardigan) and her "ethereal wovens and floral embroideries" impressed me so much that I wanted to grow up soon to grab it :) Dresses as these are women dreams. Have a wonderful weekend Natalia! xo
