As much as I love the sun, I truly enjoy those moody grey days, the softness and nostalgia they often bring. There were times when I even loved walking in the rain. I still do, but now most of my walks include a dog who needs a blow-dry as soon as we get home, which is a bit of a mood-killer.
So instead of getting drenched, I turn to fashions that remind me of the element and, should I still get caught, can actually provide enough protection and comfort.
This look began with a pair of grey ankle boots I saw on Jones Bootmaker website the other day - the scrumptious suede surface, perfectly shaped almond toe and classic shape just said "Wear me now!"
And I did imagine taking them for a stroll... Just wandering down those autumn streets. Grey day. Grey booties. Me feeling blissfully happy in grey booties. Then it struck me that most of the time I only paired this style with either jeans and jacket or trench or, at a push, a skirt and sweater, but never actually thought of a dress - silly, I know, but that's the style rut for you (or me). So I decided to create an imaginary outfit that I'd love to wear - for once, no denim in sight, but all about a dress instead. Off I went browsing, as usual...
Then I saw the dress. It made me think of the brown leaves floating on a glass surface of a lake covered with sharp reflections of bare tree branches. A fashion in watercolours! It was such a perfect match for the boots. I picked a coat to play with the lighter greys of the dress, a hat to compliment the boots and a pair of sparkling earrings covered in tiny blue stones, just like the strokes in the print of the fabric. Although I aimed to find everything on the high street or sales, I absolutely failed when it came to the bag - but wouldn't you agree that Chloe's Clare finished the look so beautifully?!
As soon as I saw the final version I knew I was in love... Now I am trying hard to stop myself from buying the entire look. What about you?
