5 minute with... Kim Winser

via fashionedbylove | Kim Winser Exclusive Interview
For Kim Winser, fashion has been a playground from the start. She stepped into it, aged 18, as a Marks & Spencer trainee, and soon became the youngest appointed divisional director and the first woman on the company's board.

Unfazed by such a success, she kept moving forward lead by her vision and dreams. In 2000 Winser became a CEO of Pringle of Scotland and in 2006, the year she was presented with an OBE for services to the fashion industry, Aquascutum, two iconic British brands which she turned into modern and highly successful business ventures. In 2009 Kim also worked her magic at Agent Provocateur and tripled the company's profits within a couple of years.

And as if this wasn't enough to keep her busy, in 2013 Kim Winser founded Winser London, a clothing label that offered beautifully made and sensibly-priced separates to women looking for timeless and classic wardrobe pieces. She is on a mission to make it a worldwide success - knowing Kim, she will achieve her goal in no time.

I love this wonderful woman for being such an inspiration, for the fearlessness, vision and that special sparkle in her eyes only truly passionate people have.

What is the best thing about fashion?
Creativity and individuality, it gives everyone a voice without saying a word. If used well it can give everyone a level of confidence, if you look and feel good, everyday challenges are so much easier.

And the worst?
Fads and poor quality.

How would you describe yourself in five words?
Strong, determined, fun, confident, happy.

Most favourite items in your wardrobe right now, something, you believe, every woman should have to look chic...

Audrey cashmere jumper (£195) is an investment that you can dress up or dress down. I wear mine both ways, my real favourite is with my cotton cropped trousers; midnight top to toe - chic yet casually comfortable.

Woven leggings (£99). If you wear leggings I promise you, these, in two way Italian stretch cotton blend fabric, are the most comfortable and stylish ones you will ever own.

Silk V-neck (£120). I wear this silk t-shirt as a blouse to board meetings, but also it's long enough to wear over my Winser leg gins for the weekend.

SB Milano coat (£250) that I wear as a coat and also as a jacket for important meetings. I often wear the matching Milano skirt, which is the new midi length and only £89.

Short trench coat (£195). A celebrity favourite is the new must-have item, as worn by Emma Watson after the Oscars.

How would you define luxury?
Beautiful quality, craftsmanship and design.

And elegance?...
Always choosing your personal style over trends, the most important thing of all is that you feel confident. Less is more, too!

Most important lesson you've leant...
In life always give more than you take.

Who would be your most perfect dinner date?
I cannot possibly choose one person, I love entertaining and I like my table full!

Your favourite dessert...
An assortment of delicious British cheeses!

One of your guilty pleasures....
I love a glass of champagne after a hard days work.

What is your biggest fear?
The health and well-being of all my loved ones.

What makes you the happiest?
Walking my dog, chatting with my son on a Sunday in the country. It's the best way to relax, too.

One of the things you wish people knew about you, but nobody ever asked...
I am a trustee of the Natural History Museum, I enjoy my time there as much as I do running my own company Winser London.

What would you do if you were elected as Prime Minister?
For my first year in office I would book twelve different venues across the United Kingdom and work one month from each office. I am sure there would be logistical and security challenges in doing this but the benefit of understanding the needs across the UK would justify the determination to make it work.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you find yourself?
I don't really think like that, I prefer to live in the moment wherever I am and whatever I am doing. However, I always enjoy my time at home.
Your recipe for success...
Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and why. Develop your strategies but remember to learn, and adjust them over time. Fundamental to success is to employ a carefully selected talented and energetic team who you can work alongside and who you can trust.

Also be prepared to seriously graft. I have been gifted with oodles of passion and determination which without question has helped me success and enjoy my life.

Your motto or favourite quote...
"Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde
