Christmas gift guide: every shade of RED

Confess - do you read Pantone's colour of the year reports? I know, I know... It's a question with a tease... A bit like asking somebody if they read horoscopes. I wouldn't necessarily expect many positive responses here because, lets just say, a lot of people perceive both activities as being slightly shallow and, in a way, damaging for their intellect (and reputation).

So instead of torturing you and because I have nothing to lose, I will admit that I can never resist a sneak peak into the latter despite the fact that reading about colourings makes me feel a bit like a woman from the 80s' who bases her choice of fashions on the principles of colour analysis... "Oh, but daaah-ling, this is so "spring" and you are definitely a "winter", hear somebody say to me whilst waving a rainbow of swatches before my eyes and then creatively wrapping them around my torso pretending to be Alber Elbaz in the making...

I always wondered why those women didn't use the mirrors to see what worked and what didn't...

But enough about trips down the memory lane - instead lets look into the future because yesterday the leading provider of "systems for accurate colour communication" (don't you just love the super clever and important marketing spiel?!) told everyone to choose marsala as the hue of 2015. And since it usually takes a global committee of colourists and experts and twelve months of research to choose the ultimate shade, we should treat the decision with respect, listen and, well, communicate our love for it by adopting marsala-coloured (and, ideally, not marsala-stained) fashions and scattering beautiful trinkets around our homes, too... perhaps, even indulging in some wine and making a tiramisu.

Because it really is a gorgeous, sensual and very elegant shade that has the seductive depth of reds, but also the warmth, earthiness and comfort of cinnamon and cloves - easy to fall in love with and beautiful to wear, especially in a form of silk, cashmere and velvet with a few drops of jewels here and there...

Naturally my third Christmas gift guide comes in every shade of marsala red to get you started...

And for a girl who has everything... How about Bitten Cherries? Or vintage Birkin?

    1. I think it's pretty natural, though. Having said that, I avoided mint at all costs because so many were wearing it. :) And yes, Birkin is rather fabulous, isn't it?! x

  6. I really do think that Pantone's colour forecasts are so silly - and I've hated about the last five colours. But despite my thinking this concept is shallow, I do love the colour of marsala and your selection of gifts in that shade is just exquisite.

    1. Maybe stick with accessories or something for the home? Personally, I've never had anything burgundy's in my wardrobe for years, absolute years and only started wearing it in 2013 simply because my favourite bag came in this colour and the rest just followed. :)

    1. You are right - any colour could look bad if not worn right. And you and Valeria made me smile because I saw your comments simultaneously and you both said about girls not loving it. :) :) :)

  18. Honestly I'm happy that this is the new colour for 2015 as I love this shade really. So no wonder that I love what you picked in this colour :) And interesting that you neither believe in this winter, summer ... type analysis as I also think each woman have a mirror :) Happy new week and yes, I think you are right with your assumption why I love the dress you wore in summer so much!
