"Fashion can be really racist, looking at the clothes of other cultures as costumes. That's mundane and old hat. Let's break down some barriers. Get more inspiration from the personality of the region than the actual ethic origin. It's more important for the evolution of any design."

  2. I couldn't agree more - whenever I see "ethnic inspired" fashions on the runway, even if they are beautiful, it always makes me a bit uncomfortable. And I wonder who it is who actually wears pieces like that.

  7. Interesting quote, and thought provoking. I actually see OUR clothes as costumes, as will our offspring will no doubt in 50 years , exemplifying our idiosyncratic ways and social mores. Why would the clothing of other cultures be "costumes" and ours not.
I also love the distinction between uniform ( what we wear to blend it) and costume, what we wear to express our unique selves. Which goes to why my blog is named as it is.
    Beautiful photo!
