Marc Hispard, one of the most iconic photographers who defined the beauty, style and exuberant energy of the 1980-90s fashion, passed away on 27 April 2015.

He began his career at the age of 15, when as a teenager, Marc got his first job at a professional photo lab in Paris and simultaneously enrolled at Ecole du Louvre to study the secrets of the craft. The early 1960s saw him work at British and Italian Vogue and New York-based Mademoiselle.

In the 1980s Hispard became one of the three photographers who created the very first issue of American Elle while continuously contributing to Italian, French and British Vogue, Marie Claire, French Glamour and shooting campaigns for Nina Ricci, Dior, Victoria's Secret, Biotherm and Estee Lauder and working with the most beautiful models including Claudia Schiffer, Tatjana Patitz, Karen Mulder, Chrystele Saint Louis Augustin, Yasmin LeBon, Cindy Crawford, Carla Bruni, Nadege du Bospertus, Kirsty Hume and Kate Moss.

As it often happens to me, I tried to find the moment in time when I first became aware of Hispard's work. Surprisingly, the memories took me back to the 1990s and the mesmerising Givenchy Organza ad. Back then I only knew the name of the Goddess-like Yasmeen Ghauri - but it was, indeed, Marc Hispard who created the entire concept of that stunning, magical, dreamy campaign and, through that image, give me another reason to fall in love with fashion...

May he rest in peace...

  2. What an incredible loss the fashion photography community has suffered this week. That Givenchy Organza ad is one I will never forget - we had a life size post of it in the department store where I worked selling perfumes in university and it never ceased to stun me.
