Looking back at both my Timeless chic picks and lifelong style favourites, I've come to realise that the pieces that make it into the fashion realm are, more often than not, inspired by menswear. The trench, the white shirt, the marinere, the trousers, adapted to have a softer appeal without losing their strength and simplicity. They really stand the test of time without loosing the allure of masculine femininity I am subconsciously attracted to.
No wonder, these looks from the Derek Lam Spring/Summer 2007 collection resonated so deeply. Just two, but so beautiful and refined, with every element, including the newly launched handbags and shoes, chosen carefully to compliment the rest. And, of course, the materials... The suede, the linens, the cashmere and the raw silks are just heavenly. They may be nine years old by now, but that's the thing about classics - they don't really age...
Do you know that the striped jacket outfit even became one of the permanent V&A exhibits? An unexpected discovery that didn't surprise me at all.
