Oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy... I feel like White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland... "I'm late, I'm late..." It seems that my last shopping report hit the blog in March. Which is pretty poor performance-wise. In my defence, I was planning to talk about sandals for weeks, but honestly, the weather and temperatures weren't particularly inspiring.
So, the sandals... The barely there soles held by a couple of straps - that's the kind I absolutely adore and could collect in numerous quantities. Instead of the gladiators that became one of the Spring/Summer 2015 trends thanks to Valentino and Chloe, I prefer the simplest, free from embellishments and most delicate thong for it's elegant look, timelessness and versatility.
True, my choice was once considered the most common of them all, but somehow I do love the fact that the style has been around since 200BC. I also enjoy a tale about Roman courtesans who had the nails on the soles of their simple sandals arranged in such a unique way that, when walked, the girls would leave a "Follow me" print in the sand... These days they'd probably have to include a hash tag to get even more business out of that seemingly innocent walking.
Since I haven't been around since the early days of Roman Empire nor had an opportunity to admire the style in the 1960 and 1970s fashion magazines, I first fell in love with the strappy sandals at Alberta Ferretti Spring 2004 show. In fact, I loved the whole look worn by Anja - the brown silk dress, the sandal...
It was wonderful to see the shoe return this spring - finally, after years of searching for my sole mates, I can treat myself to a perfect pair... Will you #followme in this adventure?
