It was announced today that Courreges will have two new creative directors. Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, the twenty-something French designers and founders of Coperni, will show their first ready-to-wear collection during Spring/Summer 2016 season.
I could not be more excited about the news for Courreges always meant a lot of memories, from the surreal cosmic plastic-fantastic collections and Audrey Hepburn photos to the geometric perfume bottles topped with a huge ball-like closure.
The choice of the new designers seems pretty logical - Courreges was modernist with a futuristic vision and love of space (his first collection was, in fact, called "Space Age") while Meyer and Vaillant not only named their brand after the famous astronomer, but are known for their idea of creating a wardrobe revolution by marrying innovative fabrics and simple lines.
So far so good... The future suddenly seems rather bright and promising. I love it when a fashion house is resurrected by people who seem to inherit genes of its original creator somewhat naturally as if it was written in the stars (sorry, but I couldn't help mentioning the cosmic powers one more time).
