On Sunday Azzedine Alaia celebrated his birthday and gave me a perfect excuse to finally post a few photos of Christy Turlington wearing Alaia's designs in the Tropical whites editorial published in the May 1990 issue of American Vogue. The styling was done by Grace Coddington and photography - Hand Feurer, one of my favourite fashion photographers of all times.

The story made me realise how iconic and identifieable these dream team members are... Christy, of course - one of the supermodels. Azzedine Alaia and his signature figure-adoring shapes and intricately woven designs and details. Grace Coddington with her impeccable taste and genius of creating absolutely flawless looks. And Hans Feurer's ability of capturing emotions and life moments as if they just happened, naturally, without script and planning, and then translating them into the softness, slightly grainy, sun-gilded images.

  4. I sometimes wonder where and how my sense of style developed. Fashion was not emphasized in my home at all growing up, which to be honest upon reflection I think is fine. But it left me to develop a sense of style from outside, and when I see an editorial like this, published when I was four and a half years old, I begin to understand where the influences came from. Although I doubt I will ever be gutsy enough to cut my hair this way, this mix of gowns with flats and a devil may care pixie cut is exactly what I thought glamour was when I was a little girl - and on some level, still do.
