Since I was five I knew what my perfect wedding dress would be like. My mum had a silk nightie, a beautiful bias cut barely there gown made of liquid satin adorned with lace. I didn't care that it was sheer or, as a slice of reality, an actual nightie - I loved that dress as it was and begged my mum to take good care of it, so the dress would last and look just as beautiful on my wedding day as it did then.
Perhaps, that childhood memory was one of the elements that started my love of lace and romance in fashion that manifested into an absolute fondness of Galliano's Dior and Copping's Nina Ricci... Who knows... My mind has a lot of dark corners and, frankly, often resembles a maze...
What I do know, though, is that thanks to Riccardo Tisci's vision for Givenchy there will be plenty of girls wearing layers of lace comes spring - day or night, wedding or not, it won't matter any more. We will be wearing lace because it's so fantastically gorgeous, fragile, feminine, dreamy and the most straight forward way to evoke a sensation of sensuality, create a special fairy-tale moment and, finally, experience that childhood dream of wearing the most beautiful nightie... as if by magic!
