It began with a coat. A beautiful black pea coat that can be styled in so many ways it makes my head spin just imagining all the options... Classic Yves Saint Laurent look, Hedi's Saint Laurent look, something very Isabel Marant or Chloe and even, with a few clever little additions, Balmain.
Having considered all of the above I decided to play with the coat on Look-a-Porter where I recently added a few budget-conscious outfit ideas. There in a midst of creativity outburst I suddenly thought of Michael Kors - one of my favourite Autumn/Winter 2015 collections - and this particular look that caught my attention during the show.
Of course, the Bouillione coat was a stunner, but at £4k more of a indefinite dream wish item rather than anything I'd be buying any time soon. But then what else to expect from a brand where a simple white shirt (can then be just seen) would set me back at £400? Nothing short of "it's very expensive" - like a bullet to the heart of any budget-limited girl.
So I created my version. Granted it comes in grey and black hues, not navy, but I think it looks good and, what's important, can be mine for less than a price of the Kors shirt. Should you decide to turn the coat into something pretty spectacular, simply DIY the sleeves with some brocade, beaded motives, ribbon or even embroidery, just for the fun of it.
