Amanda Wakeley clothes is an experience as sensual as it is addictive. Lucky those women who can casually stroll into her Mayfair boutique for an elegant ensemble and a complimentary dose of allure...
Because the world she created is a fashion fantasy. The shop itself, with its warm and inviting atmosphere and air of modern glamour, is a kind of place I would be happy to call my ideal home. It's flawless in every way, from the dark parquet floors, slate fire places, brass details, one of a kind listed staircase that has seen some of the most elegant couture shows of the 1920s to the light streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows bouncing off a custom made chandelier in the Drawing room in a myriad of rainbow coloured rays.
Suddenly I realise that taking inspiration from Santiago Calatravas designs for her latest collection that marked a 25-year anniversary of the brand is nothing but an extension of Wakeley's love for all things beauty being it fashion, style, nature or, as it becomes clear, art and architecture.
The result - a fluid, strong, modern and yet very weightless and feminine Spring/Summer 2016, Wakeley's style - strict and minimal lines of the trousers, flowy tops held by wide ribbons or barely there spaghetti straps mimicking the structure of Calavatra's buildings, oversized sweaters spotting organza details, and very simple, almost slab-like, shirts and day dresses often cinched at the waist to create the most flattering silhouette - all skilfully executed to perfection from cashmere, silk, suede and pleated raffia in the dreamiest, softest hues of silvery grey and blush rose, and strong and bold cobalt blue and classic black.
In my mind I was already in love with the collection after watching the livestream - the way everything moved, in a dreamy slow dance, was enchanting. Now I could see it in person, appreciate the details and touch every piece, I was in heaven, absolute HEAVEN! Admittedly, outside I might have looked (almost) calm, but inside the heart was dancing.
Leaving it all behind was the hardest part, talking about these clothing - one of the easiest things I have ever had to do.
On the final note - if you have a wedding, ball or something very special coming up, do me a favour and buy one of the gowns (and then stop by Aquazzura across the street for the shoes) - and live a moment of your life in and through Amanda Wakeley vision. I promise, it'll feel like a fairy tale.
