I kept asking myself this question over and over again. Some say, it's about her clever references to art and incredible ability to recycle ideas whilst making you believe that she's their original and the only one author. It is also true that Prada clothes are timeless, which makes them some of the most desirable and wearable investments to think of. Yet there are many other designers who employ the same research and design techniques without ever getting close to Miuccia. We can spend days discussing her work and still never truly get to the core of it all... Perhaps, this is exactly what she wants us to do, being Prada, the visionary.
But at the end of the day, I believe that the secret, the ultimate secret of Miuccia Prada is all about the feeling. Her shows are the ones you will never forget because regardless of whether we want it or not, they make us respond emotionally. And with that emotion comes a feeling, a new memory that connects us to the moment in time when we saw the collection. Hence, the link and sensation remain in our mind forever just like our recollection of her clothes. Whether we perceive them as beautiful or not, we will always remember the most striking pieces and, often, covet them, too.
Prada Fall/Winter 2016 was the very first live stream I watched without my pup. For years, since he was little, Oscar insisted on sitting on my lap and following the movement on the screen. It was one of our "things" - to watch Prada. This time I found myself on my own, sad, but excited about what was yet to come. By then I've already seen snippets of the mood boards - a visual enchanting invitation into a guided mysterious abyss, and had an idea of the clothes thanks to the earlier menswear show.
It was spellbinding, strong, like a shot of cognac that hits and caresses the palate simultaneously. Wearable and elegant dresses and military style coats, opulent textures, striking tights, lace-up boots, wedge sandals and amazing bags. Stella Tennant and Sasha Pivovarova. Darkness cut with light. And the music running through my veins like a monotonous February rain... Yet another tale of Prada when the clothes evoke something inside my heart way beyond the love of cloths and garments. And that to me was the real power of Prada. Once again she made us (or at least, me) feel alive and real. While giving us plenty of clothes to shield those raw emotions from the rest of the world.
